Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, our enthusiasm for the outdoors was cultivated at a young age by trips to the Columbia River Gorge, Bend, Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, etc. After college we sought out a new challenge and decided to tackle Mt. Rainier. After months of training we’d reached our goal and attained Columbia Crest on September 7th, 2008.
In the weeks that followed we resolved to keep up our training regimen of weekly hikes to stay in shape. Idle trail talk led us to set a goal for ourselves: explore all the hikes in Harvey Manning and Ira Spring’s 55 Hikes around Snoqualmie Pass. Before long, we decided it would be fun to track our progress, and hikingwithmybrother.com was born.
The website has improved a great deal over the years. Our trip reports focus on recommending hikes we like, detailing the pitfalls, capturing the essence of the hike in pictures, and striving to give a little extra background to the hikes we do. After completing 55 Hikes, we moved beyond the confines of Snoqualmie Pass and started exploring the rest of the state. Along the way we've met a lot of hikers and outdoor lovers, as well as partnering with Backpacker Magazine, Seattle Times, Washington State Parks, and WTA. Today we continue our hikes, but we no longer do it simply for the exercise, we also do it for everyone that follows hikingwithmybrother.com and enjoys up-to-date trail reports, out of the way destinations, and adventuresome hikes. In 2014, we published our first guidebook, Hiking through History Washington: Exploring the Evergreen State's Past by Trail and working toward putting together more books in the near future.
We hope you like what we've put together for you here at hikingwithmybrother.com and use us as a resource in the future. Please feel free to drop us a line at hikingwithmybrother@gmail.com.

So glad to have found this site! Thanks for all the work you are putting into it!
WOW! I just moved to Seattle and am gearing up for my first full season of backpacking and this is a goldmine. THANKS!
Great site guys, thanks for all the hard work! the hiking tips have been helpful and everything is organized very well. Thinking of making your way to the peninsula in the future???
Hey! I just downloaded your free app and I can't tell you how awesome it is to have updates of the local trails. I've lived in the puget sound my whole life and have been looking for something like this for a while!
What a fantastic complement to WTA's site. I love the history you provide - good writing too. Thanks.
Thank you for this site!! Just discovered it today. I love hikes with beautiful views, and your photos help me choose which trails I want to go on. I'm new to the Seattle area, and this site is perfect for me :D Thank you!!
How did you create your website?
Tremendous site! Great content and well organized. Kudos. Glad you joined the Times network or I may have never known what I was missing.
I love your website! Most informative I have found for hikes in Western Washington. Keep up the awesome job!
Of course all your favorites are moderate to hard. Great site guys...
Put a 'donate' button on this site.
Love love your site, so much valuable info.
Do you guys do mountain fishing info?
Thanks and good job
Hi Chris, We don't focus too much on fishing, but we might be able to answer a specific question as to whether or not there are fish in a particular lake. :)
Well done site! I especially like the pop-up stats of distance and elevation gain.
Nice site, you have covered many of my favorite hikes from my 20 years spent in the Seattle area. I would love to see you guys cover some of the Southern Washington Cascades such as Indian Heaven Wilderness, Panther Creek Falls, Guler Ice Caves, big lava beds, any of the MANY waterfall hikes along the Lewis River, and the Hot Springs along the Wind River. All fantastic hikes with great rewards!
This is such a great site, we have done a lot of those hikes and gives us ideas for new hikes. Thanks. Washington is such a great place.

this site is awesome.. i've been trying to track my hikes more often through my own blog as well! i love your trip reports on WTA.org also. keep up the good work fellas!
Of all the sites on the internet this is the BEST. The pictures are fantastic as well as the explanations. Who needs to hike when you can hike from home?!!! You have done a great job so keep up the good work - your mom should be proud of you.
Can you give a how to on downloading gpx files from Trimble Outdoors? I purchased the Trip Planner Tool but am missing some important step to make it work to get your gpx files.
Thanks, Owen
Hi Owen,
Unfortunately, it use to be free to download GPX files from Trimble Outdoors, but that changed last fall. We've slowly been moving GPX files over to our site so you can download them from here. If a GPX file has been migrated you should see a "Download GPX File" link above the Trimble Outdoors map for a given hike on our site. If there is a particular one you want, and it's missing, just shoot us an email at hikingwithmybrother@gmail.com or post a comment on the hike. I hope that helps!

Hi there,
I am a 57 year old mountaineer that loves every one of gods creations. I think your site is awesome! Keep up the good work. By the way, if you have not done Mt Pugh yet, it is one for the books! I have been to the summit twice and it is awe inspiring!
Cheers! Swede :)
It was great to see this grow over the years! Congrats!
Thanks Katie!!
Guys...I enjoy the write-ups and the whole concept. My only wish is that you'd include more of the wildlife that you encounter...including the fish that you spot. Thanks.
Fascinating blog, guys! Thanks for connecting with us on Twitter! Keep up the great work and stay safe!
What GPS unit/programs do you use? I'm buying my first GPS, and want the capability to make detailed waypoints and tracks as you do.
Hi Ethan, We've been using a Garmin 60CSx with Garmin's MapSource software for over 5 years and it still works great! There are newer models available now, the 62 and 64 which I imagine are have even better performance. Hope that help! -Jer

Is there any hiking near snoqualmie summit? Or is the snowpack require snow shoes?
Hi Chom, You'll need snowshoes this time of year. Try using the "snowshoeing" filter on the map to find a place to go!
luv yo blug. tanks!
What will you do after Trimble closes the doors on navigator?
It's a long process, but we were already working on moving away from Trimble. Thanks for the heads up, Jorge!
